Why AI

Why are we excited about AI?
There is definitely a lot of hype around AI. The hype is exciting but also deafening sometimes. Everyone feels the pressure to build and engage with AI. It’s magical, life changing. That’s kind of all true.
But there is a lot of work to be done to achieve that vision. We are excited about AI and making it a big focus at Augment because AI will make digital just more awesome. We’ve been building digital experiences driven by data since our inception and see AI as a natural extension. Digital experiences (like getting a mortgage or shopping for a shirt or detecting cancer in a MRI scan) will become more intelligent, helpful, playful and hopefully inspiring. Ultimately, AI will make life easier and more delightful when we engage with the digital world.
That’s why we’re excited about AI. We went to delight and improve lives.
We are far away from that ideal. We have embraced dev tools such as GitHub copilot, and we are building our own internal AI assistant, Auggy, so we are seeing the limits with AI. There is a lot of work to be done just getting data and digital infrastructure ready to use AI. You cannot go to tell a LLM to search a set of data stores and have it come up with amazing and helpful responses (if you have a tech that can, please let me know, like right now). The data needs to be structured and labeled. The user experience needs to be fully thought out. We do not want to use AI and make the experience worse. That sounds backwards but that happens all the time with user experiences.
There is a lot of delight and work ahead. We’re ready to work.
